SEVILLE AND MURILLO

sevilla y murillo

Throughout this year Seville and Murillo have been united celebrating the IV centenary of the birth of the Sevillian painter.

There is no doubt that Bartolomé Esteban Murillo is one of the most representative painters of the city of Seville during the seventeenth century. For this reason, different exhibitions have been held in different parts of the city with Sevilla and Murillo. You can still visit some of them, such as those found in the Hospital de la Caridad or in the Santa Clara Space.

Seldom has a city and a painter reached a connection as intimate as that of Seville and Murillo.

As a culmination to this year of celebrations of Seville and Murillo, on November 29 was inaugurated  the last and most important of the exhibitions that have been held throughout this year 2018 and that can be visited until 17 March 2019.

50 paintings from museums and private collections from around the world plus 5 paintings from the permanent collection of the Fine Arts  Museum of Seville make up this exhibition.

It is the first time that you can admire so many works of Murillo gathered in the same space. The exhibition is organized in 9 sections that show “the World through the eyes of Murillo”. Religious paintings, beggars and ” pícaros” (rogues), portraits, etc … reflecting the connection of Seville and Murillo, both on the spiritual level and the amazing ability of the artist to capture the scenes of everyday life.

You can see works in different supports such as canvas, table, copper and obsidian (stone of volcanic origin).

From Show Me Sevilla we propose different possibilities to enjoy the Murillo Year
