The Sevilla Bienal of Flamenco celebrates its XX edition.
Since its birth in the year 1980 the Sevilla Bienal of Flamenco has been celebrated without interruption every two years in September.
This year 2018 the Biennial celebrates its XX edition. From 6 to 30 September Flamenco fans can enjoy a wide range of performances in different stages of the city of Seville.

Flamenco in Seville
The reason why the Sevilla Bienal of Flamenco is considered to be the most important Flamenco Festival in the world is linked to the flamenco tradition of the city.
The Triana Neighbourhood is located on the right bank of the Guadalquivir river, on its way through Seville. It is considered the place of origin of Flamenco.
When the Gypsies arrived in Spain at the beginning of the 15th century, they settled Triana , a marginal neighborhood on the other side of the river, where they came into contact with the different ethnic groups living in Triana , at that time a suburb outside the city walls, Moriscos (converted Muslims ), Conversos (converted Jews) and black slaves manumitted.From this amalgam of cultures, Flamenco was born.
Until the 50s the gypsies live in Triana, in neighborhood patios where 20 or 30 families share their lives, perfect breeding ground for the transmission of Flamenco.

The First Flamenco Festival:
The Sevilla Bienal of Flamenco is today the most important Flamenco Festival in the world.
Different Flamenco Festivals are celebrated , especially in summer, in Andalucia.
The first Flamenco Festival was held in Granada in 1922. It was organized, among others, by the musician Manuel de Falla and the great poet Federico García Lorca.
