It belonged to the Palacio de San Telmo, a 17th century building. The palace was acquired by the Dukes of Montpensier in 1849. The Murillo garden

These gardens have their origin in the Huerta del Retiro del Alcázar. Already in 1862 a part was ceded to expand the Fair. Alfonso XIII gave up another part in 1911 to connect the Barrio de Santa Cruz with that of San Bernardo. It will not be until 1918 that it will obtain the current name, coming from the painter of the same name, buried in the nearby Plaza de Santa Cruz. Great protagonists of these gardens are the huge ficus. Of course we also find bitter orange trees. An ideal place to rest in one of its gazebos with the typical ceramic benches.
